I engaged Tim Sweet of Team Work Excellence Business Consulants as both an Advising Consultant and a Strategic Facilitator to increase the performance of my organization.
As an Advising Consultant in the area of performance improvement and transformation, Tim was engaged to help a struggling program find traction.
The Operational Management System team was challenged to meet key product development timelines as well as product quality and effectiveness/fit for purpose expectations. Several management interventions at different levels were unsuccessful in redirecting the team’s efforts. Tim was brought in as a performance specialist to perform a rapid assessment of the team’s capabilities and direction in order to make recommendations for necessary changes.
Tim’s excellent character and performance assessment skills resulted in recommendations to make key staff and responsibility changes that quickly increased the productivity and effectiveness of the overall team. A mindset shift occurred within the team that resulted in project milestones being consistently met and increased client satisfaction with the completed work products. In a series of strategic planning sessions and follow up client and employee meetings Tim was able to facilitate the development of concise, clear statements of purpose, impact, and priorities for each of the key areas of the departments.
The process helped to clarify opportunities for synergies and interdependence as well as priorities for which responsibilities were more individualized to particular groups. Importantly each group was able to connect their service roles as program owners and developers into the overall function of the company’s new Operational Management System. This “cohesiveness” did not exist prior to these groups coming together organizationally and was challenging to articulate without the output of Tim’s strategic planning efforts.
Tim’s leadership and facilitation of the group’s strategic plan laid the foundation for a set of clear, client vetted, tactics and priorities. Achieving a level of simplicity, these “stories” could be used to articulate the current and desired states of each key department within the group and provided a clear path to get there with demonstrable measures. Doing this on a single page was a breakthrough compared to the prior approach to planning.
