Quiz 1 - If leadership was as simple as A, B, or C - I'd be out of job.
Read to the end to see if you pass.
- Do you regularly seek feedback on your leadership style? Seeking feedback is great, but knowing how to effectively use it is even better. We all get feedback all the time - some of it is terrible. And when we do get good feedback, we need to be able to adopt it sustainably, not just bolt it on like a bright, shiny accessory.
- How adaptable is your leadership approach? Flexibility allows you to meet the needs of your team effectively. However, flexibility varies from person to person. Not to worry, you can engineer your approach, your team, your processes, and more to build in systematic flexibility.
- How much do you prioritize empathy in your leadership? Empathy is key to creating a supportive and cohesive environment. However, everyone expresses empathy in different ways. The key is whether people understand and feel your empathetic expression. If it's not genuine, it's not empathy.
- Are you more of a manager or a leader? All leaders are managers, but not all managers are leaders. Sometimes our leadership has to be delivered as tasks. The nuance lies in mastering leadership across various levels: Cultural, Strategic, Tactical, Operational, and one-on-one. Developing fluency allows you to play and create with your teams, nimbly switching between levels as required.
- Have you considered getting a mentor or coach to enhance your leadership? Seeking a mentor or coach demonstrates your commitment to your own leadership journey... so everyone does it, right? Unfortunately, most people don't seek mentors or coaches. Why? Because they have some block and avoid discomfort: an expense, facing truths they don't want to hear, feeling stupid or incompetent, avoiding the commitment to act... all of these are common. Learning to value yourself, embracing growth, confronting the impostor syndrome, and committing to action represent some of the most meaningful and life-changing steps you can take.
Remember, leadership is a journey, not a destination.
When you grow - you inspire!
